Personally, I had children 13 months apart so it doesn't seem so far-fetched.
Maybe the OP is having a scheduled C-Section and will be in the hospital from Mon-Fri (= a week). If she doesn't have any family locally, and DH works until late at night, it may be simpler to leave the big brother at a sitter for the week than to find a babysitter until 10 and transfer him home, and ship him back out early in the morning so DH can daven vasikin and run to work.

Maybe it isn't anyones business, and you should all stop speculating as to why OP asked for help. She doesn't need to tell you, and you don't need to know. If you don't have an answer for her, go away.
Sheesh. Judgy ladies.

Abandoning a child CAN cause permanent damage in the way the child bonds with and relates to others.
Read up about RAD and Dr. Lederer.
For the child, being left like this is akin to being orphaned. S/he has no concept of time, no understanding of you coming back.
There is almost always a better solution. |
Based on the research you've done:
1. Would it make a difference if the child is left with their father? IOW, Mom is primary caregiver, but leaves 10 month old for 4 days with Dad?
2. If baby has no concept of time and therefore no understanding of you coming back, would it feel like "abandonment" if the parent leaves for a few hours (to shop, work etc)?
Thank you
