Seems to me that Rabbi Shimon being in EY has made this such a special occasion only here. I haven't heard of anyone doing things traditionally associated with Lag B'Omer in Chul.
When I ask if you celebrated with something which is a Lag B'Omer minhag I mean bonfires, songs about Rabbi Shimon, bows and arrows, going to Meron or Rabbi Shimon HaTzaddik, not other things which are scheduled for Lag B'Omer b/c it's a good opportunity to have it.

Lag B'Omer used to be sports day in school. We didn't do anything special...we were too tired last night from Shabbat, and I was working a regular day today.

I am in Chu"l, and we had a (relatively) small bonfire last night for the heimishe community. There was singing and dancing and it was really nice.
The boys usually get bows and arrows in cheder.
I also dont understand where the minhag of schools going on trips lag ba'omer came from

last night we went to the neighborhood shul where they made a fire, sang songs of Rabbi Shimon and danced away. my kids really enjoyed it.
today the music is on all day (giving me a headache) and we baked special desserts.
also I have a yartzeit licht for Rabbi Shimon.

Well, we had an upshernish tonight for my son, defiantely connected to lag be'omer.
it was a bad year to make a bonfire because shaboos ends so late here (10pm).
We had a community bbq. (if we had a place to make a bonfire we would)
When we have school on lag beomer we take the kids outside and play with bows and arrows.
Obviously, for those of us in chutz learetz, going to Meron is only a dream, not a practical option.

when I was in school we always had a school outing to a local park. being in a major urban area there were no actual forests to go to, so a park was as close as we could get.
I heard there was supposed to be a local BBQ --not a bonfire, which city ordinances forbid--but we didn't go.

Lag B'Omer has been celebrated outside of E.Y. for the longest time. Sefer Ha'Toda'a brings the customs of using many candles in shuls and singing piyutim in Rashbi's honor, learning Idra Zuta in the Zohar. He brings the custom of Polish and Russian communities to collect candles which were lit in the beis medrash. He says some lit bonfires. He writes that gedolei ha'Chasidim treated it as a Yom Tov, wearing bigdei Yom Tov and having a tish.
He brings customs from North Africa and Tunisia.
Seems that the custom of outings may have to do with the custom (brought in Sefer Ha'Toda'a) of children in chutz l'aretz going out with bows and arrows which is bec. no rainbow was seen in the lifetime of Rashbi.

It's apparently a custom dating back some time. I have read Holocaust memoirs in which the authors mention going on Lag BaOmer trips as schoolchildren.

the minhag in EY was to go out into the woods with bows and arrows to commemorate the Jews who took bows and arrows into the woods in order to evade the gezeiros against learning Torah. If they were apprehended by the imperial spies, they would claim they had been out hunting.
Since there aren't many forests in big cities, the minhag morphed into going to parks.

I think the difference is that in Israel people build bonfires on every street corner, while in the US that's illegal. In our city, one person made a bonfire in his backyard this year and invited everyone to it.
On Lag Baomer day, a few families rented a private beach and made a bon fire there (with permission from the local fire department).

Within a block and a half, we had 3 huge bonfires. It was great. They were huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge.
Heres some pics my husband took of the main community bonfire.
Before it was lit.
And after:
Look carefully at the size of the fire compared to the size of the people. People had to back away QUIIIIIIIITE a lot in order to not get burned by the heat.
