DH and I will both be getting home about 5pm and the fast starts around 7pm here...need something quick and easy to make on Monday, that I can just heat up Tuesday. Here's what I am thinking...

Veggie Quiche in pie shell (I have a pareve recipe)
thick veggie soup
salad?
muffins?

We will make sure to eat a good lunch earlier in the day as well but want to make sure we eat/drink enough before the fast starts. looking for ideas/recipes.

What are you all making?

I make the equivalent of a shabbos meal but not fish. We will have chicken soup with kreplach if I can make, Roasted chicken, a starch, a veggie, fruit and lots of coconut water.

We're doing a YT seuda for lunch. And then before the fast we'll be having: challah, chicken soup with vegetables noodles and chicken, natural apple compote, fruit, drinks, etc.

Does the coconut water help with the fasting?

I try to make a more filling lunch than normal. Often times I do the no boil ziti or a hearty soup like pea or lentil or fritatata. DH will serve himself and the kids at lunch time. I get home at 2 and I will eat then. Dinner we will have closer to 5.

Yes. I did two fasts pregnant last year and did not have any ill effects. I think the coconut water really helps. I also like that its more natural then gatorade or powerade.

Be careful with coconut water.... I tried it before the last YK I was expecting and it made me feel so sick. Try it a few days before to make sure you don't enter the fast feeling sick already!!

We will probably have pasta during the day (thats what my dh also wants to break the fast with) and a vegetable soup, chicken, rice and salad in the evening. And water, water water...The kids will get the leftover chicken for Yom Kippur. A

We have chicken soup all in one. That means chicken soup with kreplach, chicken from the soup (I actually like boiled chicken), carrots, and brown rice (not cooked in the soup). We eat the soup course first and the boiled chicken carrots and rice after. Brownies for dessert. All will be prepared the night before.

We do a lunch and meal before fast, both fleishig. I always try to serve brown rice before a long fast - I find it really makes a difference. So far I have the following:

Lunch:
Challah
Baked Sesame Chicken over rice
Salad
Sugar Snap Peas
Sweet Noodle Kugel ??

Meal Before Fast:
Challah
Chicken Soup with Kreplach
Salad
Chicken, brown rice, sweet potato baked together with duck sauce.

Quote:
Yom Kippur menu

Before the fast – good idea to eat an hour early (when long day) No idea what that note meant

Mushroom barley soup
Chicken
Chicken rings (if I have in the freezer)
Mashed potatoes
Ptitim or rice
Salad
Juice - cake

After the fast
Coffee
Cake-juice
Soup - important
Melon
Rolls / cream cheese
Noodles

I'm making one large pot of Parve Mushroom Barley soup for both meals

We also do a regular Shabbas seuda type of meal for lunch and for supper:
First meal
challah
dips
fish
chicken soup with kreplach
chicken
ferfel
tzimmes
potato kugel
compote

Second meal
e/th the same as first except fish

After the fast, we break the fast on fruits and cake and then sit down to a meal identical to the first.

I don't really have a recipe.
In a large Pyrex 9x13 I layer:
brown rice (prefer short grain, but any will do),
normal amount water for rice (a drop less to be on safe side)
1 - 2 peeled diced sweet Potato
Chicken Bottom with skin
Spoon some duck sauce over each piece of chicken

Cover tightly and bake - not sure maybe 2 - 2 1/2 hours. It has to be long enough for the water to boil and rice to cook well. Check every so often that there is enough water for rice.
