Where I come from a maid is a live in person with a room of her own in the home who cleans but also performs other ad hoc domestic tasks as per her employers request.
Cleaning lady is just someone who comes in for a few hours a week to clean.
But I know that in other areas of the US the terms are interchangeable.

Out of all things, most of the laundry is washed. But, it's unfolded and unsorted in overflowing baskets, and when I need to do my last loads on Sunday, it may end up in pillowcases, because who has time to fold and put away the clothes currently I'm the baskets so they will be empty?

I am! I am literally on top of the laundry. Someone dumped half of it on my bed and I have nowhere else to sleep. Funny you should ask, though.
