There's a similar song, my dear Ima. Don't know if it's the same thing in English, as I don't really remember the lyrics of either.

I remember in Camp bnos years ago, the head counselors sang this on friday night. The low part they sang in english:
Ima please tell me,
what are you asking for
when you're standing before the shabbos lights/lecht
a tear slipping by
from the corner of your eye
ima, why do you cry
your lips mumbling low
in a prayer that's soft and slow
ima please tell me,
what are you asking for.
The high part they sang in hebrew. But as mentioned, I have heard an english high part version on an uncle moishy tape , also I came across someone singing it on a youtube shabbos video. I think it goes like this:
yehi ratzon milfanecha elokai,
may they be blessed with a holy light
having strength to do whats right
mitzvos every day
to learn and grow and pray
may that be your will Hashem
and generations after them.
Each week Hashem I turn to you
for they're your children too.
My child please understand
that the key is in your hand
to walk the path that's true
these tears I cry for you
Vizakeini ligadel banim...
vizakein ligadel banim
I might have some words wrong in the high part.

I agree with you, but I want to teach it to kids whose Hebrew is very poor.
Thank you so much everyone!

I think that for an English song, particularly a translated one, it was done really well and has some nice nuance. The chorus gives me chills, and a friend of mine who is a Baalas Teshuva told me that she heard the song on Uncle Moishy's album that she got for her young kids and it changes how she lit her candles forever. She did not understand the yehi ratzon, but this she knew.
Incidentally, if you need an Uncle Moishy a album that won't make you want to throw it or yourself out the window, I recommend the one it's on, vol. 12, Dance with Uncle Moishy.

That is usually true. But I know there is a Yiddish version that is pretty good. And at the moment my kids dont understand any Hebrew. I would like to be able to sing it with them Friday night.

I think this is the song you are thinking of:
My dear Ima, I'm sending this letter
to say the things I've never said
Of your impressions, as your daughter
These thoughts are going through my head
As far back as I can remember
You said Shema with me at night
Each week I saw you welcome Shabbos
I saw your candles burning bright
You made our home a house of Torah
Encouraged Abba to learn each day
You stood beside him during hard times
You gave him stregnth in your own way
You taught us all about the mitzvos
Showed us the right way from the start
and you instilled a love for Torah
That we still carry? in our hearts
Now your children have grown older
Each one has gone their separate ways
But we still follow in your footsteps
You made us what we are today
Now your daughter is a mother
I do the things you used to do
Not only did you build your own home
But Ima... you built my home too

There's one called "Zeh Shir" that contains her songs but sung by a man, I think it's Leib Yaakov Rigler (Sara Yoheved Rigler's husband).
I bought the cassette after hearing Miriam Israeli give a concert in camp.

Another former Camp Bnoser here! As soon as I read the post, I had memories of a head counselor named Chaya Sarah singing this song with Dina Storch on Friday night. That must have been over 20 years ago!
