Hi All,
I am hoping some locals can help me with the following. We are traveling to Toronto over Labor Day and stopping at Niagara Falls for Shabbos. Here are the questions I have:
1. Is there any place to buy groceries or takeout close to Niagara Falls, other than the place in Buffalo/Amherst?
2. Are there any kosher groceries or restaurants downtown Toronto? We are traveling with little kids and are not looking for fancy food, just basic pizza/burgers, etc.
3. If there is nothing downtown, what is the closest neighborhood to travel to, and how far is it?
4. What would you recommend in terms of low-cost entertainment for two days (Sun and Mon)? Our kids are 9 and 4.
Thanks in advance!

Do you want to stop at attractions on the way back?
Letchworth State Park - really pretty waterfalls without the Niagara falls crowds and commercialism.
Watkins Glen - gorgeous - maybe crowded over labor day.

Not really much kosher food downtown. Unless you want packaged stuff from the grocery store.
Eglinton Avenue is the closest to downtown that has kosher food. But it's pricier there. Quick pizza and shawarma (most places in Toronto are shawarma rather than burger) is on Bathurst st. Closer to Lawrence ave, which is one major intersection north of eglinton.
Kids that age would enjoy Ripleys Aquarium, centre island, CNE.

so....CNE sounds a bit too overwhelming...Any other kid friendly places to see that aren't too expensive? I was thinking Centre Island, but need something else as well, either downtown or close to the Bathurst area (we will have to go there to buy food anyway). Thanks in advance!

What are your kids into? Do you want like a farm or zoo type thing to do? Indoor playground? Toronto specific attractions?

If OASIS still exists in First Canadian Place you can definitely get pizza there. (In the food court; it may only be open on business days. Definitely take out.)
Do you have boys or girls? The Hockey Hall of Fame and Bata Shoe Museum are about a block away from each other. A ferry ride and Centre Island, or even just a "tour" of Harbourfront. Royal Ontario Museum. My kids did Ripley's Aquarium this summer (looked like they had a good time), and the Ontario Science Centre. They're not all downtown but they are certainly accessible by car and/or public transit. Splash Pads all over the place, including the zoo (though that's out in Scarberia, I mean, Scarborough). Nathan Philip Square. Public pools (probably not with separate hours). Labour Day weekend there may be other special stuff going on with which I'm not familiar any more.

Oasis closed down years ago :-)
