do we do for light? We can't get an electrician to do the work tomorrow- how do we get enough light in our Sukkah with no electricity in that area?

Is there something portable - sort of like a Kosher lamp, but bigger?

I have a fluorescent light and extension cord I'm not using this year.

you could do what we did and plug it inside the house, toss the cord out the window and hook it up inside.

you can borrow mine if you're in Brooklyn.

yeah that's cool...but be very careful with the candles. kids sometimes run around into other people's sukkahs at night, after meals. or a stray cat...

storm lanterns protect the candles from a storm, I should hope kids are protected against as well Smile

I have the same problem. check out this thread
http://www.imamother.com/forum.....31179
in the end I bought a few those led round push lights (similar to nightlight, closet lights) Between that and candle light hopefully will be able to see something. Just hope it last till Friday night as we have a few guest then. Says it should last up to 100 hours with

We have an extension cord plugged into our attic (because you have to leave the window open) to plug a light into.

We have no electricity either(our apartment is on the 8th floor and the sukkah is down below, the closest neighbor with electricity is 4 flights up). We've gotten by with the street lights...there is one close enough to the sukkah.

How do you have electricity in the sukka without taking it from your house?

I suppose people have candles?
I don't know, I avoid going there when it's really dark!

But maybe that's why I know almost no one who sleeps in the sukkah... They don't have electricity either in the community sukka!

They do 1 seuda or 2 (ideally) for yomtov so they have to do kiddush and motzi in the sukka (I suppose if it's totally dark they make sure to have a candle? honestly I've never seen at night, but our sukka is so close to the house that there is light I think, I never saw my dad or dh with a candle).

Chol hamoed they do just if they want a seuda. The rabbis say if they do a seuda it must be in the sukka, but they don't have to do a seuda, so most abstain unless the weather is pleasant.
