My son plans to travel overseas within the next few weeks, but doesn't have a date to leave yet. Circumstances are such that he won't have much time between the date being decided and his leaving.
He needs a passport. Is it wrong to buy a ticket, use it to get a same day passport, then cancel the ticket?
He can do the same when he actually gets the ticket, (without having to cancel it) but he will feel more secure if he has the passport in hand already.

You can do a regular expedited passport & have it in 2-3 days.

Most airlines charge for changed or cancelled tickets, so it sounds impractical, OP.

Legally, an airline must allow you 24 hours to cancel a ticket. It means buying the ticket, getting the passport, and cancelling the ticket all in 1 day.

It can take a month. You may need a whole shpil to get an accelerated one.

In Israel having a ticket is not a valid reason to get a fast passport.

You can do it at an expediter for a fee.

Doesn't sound ethical to me. I would pay an expediter to get it done in 1 week or less (the faster you need it, the more they charge - 1 week is cheaper than 3 days, which is cheaper than overnight).
