Okay, so this is the story. I am still wearing the same styles as I have for the past few years. Meanwhile, the styles I see everyone else wearing are much different. For example, no one wore dresses 5 years ago! And now everyone is. I'd like to update my style but I'm having trouble. I'm 5'4" and very overweight (200 lbs.) I would like to lose weight but until I do I would also like to wear nice clothing and at least feel a little better about my appearance. I live in Lakewood. Any links to stylish, not too expensive dresses or stylish clothing that would look nice a larger woman? Thanks in advance for your help!

Adding, much of my weight is concentrated in my stomach area due to pregnancies and diastasis recti. I have no waist.

Both!

And other clothing items that aren't dresses too.

Also, would you be willing to wear a shell skirt under a dress that hits at mid-knee?

If by "stylish" you mean stylish in Lakewood specifically, I can't help you. But if you want pretty dresses available in a wide variety of sizes I can't praise Macy's enough: https://www.macys.com/shop/pro.....d%3D1

Are floral skirts in? With a black top? I'm a little clueless about these things.

I'm looking at this one:

Check out the Vera Wang collection at Kohl’s. Beautiful floral prints, loose fitting, very flattering.

What ever you like!

It is important to have a few pieces you love.

When I started buying clothes for myself I was really lost so I took my cues from the clothes I had bought my daughters... and it evolved from there. (It was solid colors and chunky necklaces, new shoes... I started small)

Good luck!

I've no idea about Lakewood, but floral most assuredly is not "out" in general society. That print, however is (IMNSHO) dated.

This is a dress, not a skirt, but its a more modern floral.

Thanks for posting. I'm not a fan of that print or that dress. Am I doomed to just be unfashionable my whole life?

Op I’m overweight and like to dress in style

What works well for me is buying straight dresses. They sell so many styles today.

I’m a little overweight and very short. I also cannot wear dresses and well, all the stores in Lakewood are selling dresses these day.

Honestly, I stick with dark skirts - no print and I’m always looking for new tops. I think you will look good if you wear things that fit well. Don’t worry so much about what everyone is wearing. You will still find me in a black skirt with a nice top at a wedding instead of all the trendy dresses. I try to have my shaitel set and always wear makeup so I think I look the best I can although not so stylish. I’m would look good trying to dress in style. Nice, neat and what fits is the way to go. Solid skirts is a good cover up.

Btw- have you been to “a woman’s wardrobe “ in Lakewood?

I think you should shop in Zara’s. Very good prices and very much in style and on trend. They have diff styles and some should work with your body.

I gain all of my weight in my midsection so most clothing makes me look perpetually pregnant. I have perfected what I call the hippy chic look. I wear straight midi skirts mostly black and a looser longer top.

I have experimented with a few high low shirts this season and I like that it covers my tuchus and they are not particularly tight. I also went with a tunic top which also hides what I want without looking like a tent. I got three nice things from ann taylor loft. I also had good mazal on thredup which is an online consignment store.

I got a few of these jersey dresses on amazon that are also loose and flowy.
