Slicing depends which meat you buy. Some need slicing others don't. Butcher stores generally will slice your cooked meat if it was bought there. To slice meat alone it needs to be semi frozen and a very sharp straight knife for the slices to come out straight.

Crock pots are fantastic for tougher cuts of meat. Someone gave me this cookbook called "Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker cookbook" and it has lots of ideas. It's not a kosher cookbook so you'll need to make some substitutions, but anyway it helps you get a feel for how to use the slow cooker.
