I need to replace almost all of my documents because they were lost. I have been trying to do it on my own, but I keep getting stuck since to replace anything I first need proof of documents. I have been referred to some organizations but none of them are willing to help since I am Canadian and that complicates things.
I am willing to pay for help... does anyone know where I could turn to for help? A lawyer, notary, or what? Am pretty lost. Have essentially no ID.

I assume you tried the Canadian Embassy?
Which documents were lost? So you have anything? Your Canadian passport?

The embassy wasn’t terribly helpful. I could try again if you think it would help.
All I have is a birth certificate.

If you're in NY then try the Canadian consulate in Manhattan. May be easier to speak to someone than at the embassy
