Was there any oil or salt on it? Was it covered?

I'm not a rav, but I think halachiclly it's a problem. And health-wise onions absorb bacteria. So I wouldn't use it.

I'm curious to know why someone would do this? Even if you don't know halacha, wouldn't you be concerned about spoilage and attracting bugs? Do people really leave perishable food, which all produce is once it's cut, out on their counter overnight? Why wouldn't you at least put it in the fridge, preferably in a covered container?

Once you cut off the bottom of an onion you are not allowed halacha wise to leave it overnight except if you add oil or salt
