Hi,
Looking for something light and fun to read!
I know I should be reading good literature etc etc but at the end of a long day when I want to relax it's depressing to read about more people's hardships ....
The problem with a lot of light reading is that is sometimes really not written well which I find painful to read:(
Any suggestions of funny ,light but well written books would be so appreciated!
Thank you

For fiction, try the Mossy Creek (collaborative, author is listed as Deborah Smith IIRC) series. Not funny as much as light and feel good.
Dave Barry's funny. (His novels too, but they're not very clean and they don't pack the same punch as a humor book.)
Comic book anthologies. If you have a comic strip you like, get some collections out of your library.

Carol Snow (contemporary, but not dumb chick lit)
Lauren Willig (historical, but not heavy)
Very well written, and newer (I enjoyed Erma Bombeck years ago but I would think her stuff is a bit outdated, tbh)

Sophie Kinsella. I loved all her books and they're actually pretty clean.

Maeve Binchy. Not as fun and light as Sophie Kinsella, but easy reading and clean as well.

I was going to post this! The titles all start with The Burglar Who.... I've read most of them but not The Burglar Who Counted the Spoons.

I also like Christopher Buckley's comic novels.

I think the David Sedaris books are super funny, especially his earlier ones that focus on his childhood. Not squeaky clean if that bothers you (he's gay, so he talks about his relationships but nothing explicit / bedroom related that I can recall and there are occasional curse words). I also like that his books are more like collections of essays so it's easy to pick up and put down without having to remember whats going on.

"Miss Melville" series by Evelyn E. Smith. Wacky and weird, but light reading. But it's old so you're probably not going to find it in the library.

James Herriot series - I liked it, not everyone does. It's about the life of a vet in Yorkshire.

P.G. Wodehouse. I only discovered this recently and that was a pleasant surprise!

Pamela Morsi - not quite fun but relatively light reading. I don't remember how clean they are though.

Fuschia, I love Mark Childress books, but I wouldn't call them light, easy reads!

OP, maybe you would like Liane Moriarty books.

She's only written a couple, but I enjoyed Lynda Loigman Cohen. Jewish family saga type books, but not bleak or s*x obsessed, the way that type of genre usually is ( major pet peeve!). Sweet and satisfying reads. Pretty clean.
