If I have a boy I want to name Ephraim but for various reasons we need to add a name. Obviously Chaim is out and we can't use Baruch. I am considering Simcha as it would suit the person we're naming for but it's not my favorite name so I'm wondering if anyone had any other ideas.
I know that Ephraim might work better as a second name but I love the name and want to keep it as the first name.

As a three syllable name, I think Ephraim sounds best with a two syllable rather than a three syllable middle name.

Ephraim & menashe lol

if you want to add like for longer life instead of chaim & Baruch, you can add Chanina, For Hashems rachmanus, Yosef for added years.
Nochum, Menachem as a nechama.

Ephraim Nochum or Ephraim Menachem flows nicely

I agree.
And as a three syllable it’ll sound best as a first name with a shorter second name.
Like Ephraim Tzvi
Or Ephraim Yitzchak

I like the idea of a short second name but it's interesting to me that you see Yitzchok as a short name, I think it's a mouthful because of the tz and ch.

I don't know you OP, but here Ephraim is said as "Froyim", so a short middle name would go best as in "Froym Hersh".

Any Ephraim's I know are either Ephraim or Effy never heard of dropping the E. We're not Chassidish and would prefer not to use a Yiddish name unless I was naming after someone specific. The problem is so many of the Hebrew names listed are my other sons/dh/fil! I really wish I could use Ephraim alone but that's not the psak we got.

I like the idea of naming after a chashuv person but I can't get on board with Fishel.
