why do some people rinse out the kiddish cup and pour some of the water into the bottle of grape juice/wine before making kiddish?

Rinsing out is something in halacha, even if it's clean to rinse it out right before with a little water.
I just asked DH this this week! (Were newlyweds and I hadn't seen this done before).
Pouring it into the big bottle? Idk about that.

Because in olden times wine was very concentrated, and was only drunken diluted with water.
So it is a Mitzwa to dilute (the old kind of) wine with water before drinking it.
That's why some pour a few drops of water in the bottle of wine or grape juice before making kiddish...

I don’t think it’s Halacha.
Probably a strong minhag.
I’m saying this in case women start freaking out that their husbands aren’t following Halacha...
Below is the star k guide to kiddush and it isn’t mentioned:

But if you pour water in to clean it because it is dirty, it does not seem very logical to me that you would pour the dirty water from cleaning the cup in the wine or grape juice bottle...

I have a vague inkling that it's kabbalistic and not universal.

I heard from a Rov that it's to make the cup shiny and nicer.
