I was told by an OT that training wheels make it harder for a child to learn to ride as they can't learn how to balance on the two wheels-they lean from side to side and can't feel how to keep it in the middle. Best thing to do is to use a balance bike (or take the pedals off a regular bike) and let them learn how to stay on the two wheels.
