Surnames come about in different ways: some are place names, like Berliner, Alfasi, Kent; occupations, like Taylor, Schneider, Cook; patronymics, like Jacobowitz, Svensen, BenBaruch; personal descriptions, like Tallman, Klein, Rubio; scene descriptions like Feld, Stern, Meadows; and plant and animal names, like Hart, Adler, Nissenbaum.

Then there are colors: Green, White, Black, Brown,Grey. There are more people with these names than you can count. In languages other than English, other colors including Roth (Red) and Geller (a yellow person, probably referring to blond hair) are also common. But have you ever wondered why Purple , Yellow, Red, Orange or Blue are not popular surnames? Whyever not?
