I live in NY and my husband was offered to teach some English subjects in a local Yeshiva high school. The pay is 9000 for the year per period. Each period is 45 minutes long. I am curious if that falls low, high or standard.

How many periods does that come out to per week? Per month? Per year?

Does he have to travel just for that one period?
Is there a travel investment, car investment, gas investment?
Does he catch a ride? Walk down the block?
Opportunities for future growth?

9000 a year for 45 minutes a day?
18,000 a year for an hour and a half a day?
27,000 a year for two and a quarter hours a day?

That seems low for New York but I don't live in New York.

It’s 45 minutes a day for 4 days of week for a school year. It happens to be near his other job but that has nothing to do with if the salary is high low or average

Sounds low to me.

There is a lot of preparation and marking. Plus meetings with administration and parents.

And the kids can drive you nuts.

That's around $15 per hour. Seems low to me.

He seems to be earning $900 per month for approx 12 hours a month. That’s $75 per hour not $15.

Or did I miss something? One 45 min period 4 days a week. 3 hours a week times 4 weeks per month

I’m not sure how you did your math but 9000 for a ten month school year comes out to 900 a month. Figure 4 weeks a month and 4 periods a week so that’s 16 periods a month. 900 divided by 16 periods comes out to 56$ for a 45 minute period. Yes I know there is preparation talking to parents etc but there is also lots of vacation and yom tov...

Anyone dh or you yourself teach English subjects in a yeshiva highschool?

I was offered 7000 to teach one period in a girls' high school, so 9000 sounds right to me.

Sounds normal. I'm a little out of date on this but I don't think things change that fast.

My husband is a math teacher in 2 high schools in NYC. One girls' BY type school, and a boys yeshiva high school. In one he gets paid almost exactly 9K a period, and the other he gets 9500. He used to teach in another school and get more but the kids were impossible so he left.

So 9K a period seems exactly right to me.
