Forgot to add: I like your idea of singing while davening. But volunteering in an old age home, while beautiful and very worthy cause, is not a real substitute for someone who was used to sing on stages when younger. I do miss those days.

I don't get it. Aren't there men in old age homes? Why can you sing for them and not at home?

I would notice if someone isn't fully dressed. In my experience they make kiddush if children have pajamas but not barefoot and very chassidishe people taka do not make brochos if children are not fully dressed or some even if hair not tied back. its not that unusual.

It is very unusual and I never heard of such a thing.
It is truly disturbing.

This thread is getting better by the minute!
Probably for the same reason that skvere ladies sing in the kimpertarin heim even though it’s against their minhag.

Yes it really is!
I meant to sing to the LADIES in the old age home!
Unless some people have a minhag that old age homes are only for men? Laugh

OK. I didn't know there are old age homes with gender segregated activities.
Different circles I guess.

Perhaps the men in the old age home are told to turn the hearing aids off?

I didn't bring up not fully dressed. I was addressing holes in tights.

It is VERY unusual to not make brochos in front of children whose hair isn't tied back.

Thank you. I appreciate your response. As I enter menopause, it is less of an issue, as I have bigger stretches of time when I am not nidda, but I am not fully there yet. So I wonder, how do other women navigate this: If you sometimes sing during the shabbos meals (when not niddah) and sometimes you do not, isn't it obvious for your kids? This is also part of the reason many couples refrain from various displays of affection even when mutar, in order not to keep things private (kids not figuring out the cycle).

Not everyone holds that a woman can’t sing during niddah.

I dont think its respectful to have conversations during zmiros or Dvar Torah.
If it doesnt interest you, you can sit quitely, kids can play quitely on carpet (not at table), older kids can help serve/ clear, or sit and enjoy.

H doesnt need to put extra effort to overcome conversation.

How long is zmiros?
