My baby isn’t the best nursed or bottle drinker so I took him to the doctor and he said he has mild tongue tie but he wouldn’t snip it yet because it often cuts off by itself. Baby is almost 7 weeks old.
Does this make sense?

If its affecting his eating, I would def do it. And the sooner the better. The ealrier you do it, the faster it heals and the less chance you have of it growing back together.

You can try a Cranio Sacral therapist with experience with tongue ties. Less invasive.

I've never heard anyone reputable and experienced with ties say it separates on its own. If your baby is having any type of feeding issues or discomfort, the sooner you take care of it the better it will be.
Craniosacral therapy is a great idea. I don't know if on its own it can be corrective. Maybe Jacob Robinette in NY can correct it, maybe. Still a good idea to have one or two sessions of craniosacral therapy both before and after releasing the tie.

My kids are all tongue tied. By my oldest I trusted the pediatric ent. He told me not to do it.Then my kid had a bad speech defect from it. We ended up snipping by 7 years. Since then we do our kids when newborn

So easy and no down side. Snip it. You have a helpless newborn who is having trouble feeding, please help him! The pain and bleeding are so minimal you would not believe how small of a deal it is. Like a paper cut.

I know this may be uncomfortable to think about but you may want to do it for your childs intimate life. I have a mild tounge tie that didn't affect my nursing or anything when I was younger so it was never snipped. It didn't bother me my whole life until I got married.

He took bottles nicely till now. Does it make sense that it started bothering him now?

Not sure why one wouldn’t snip. Each day is crucial. I snipped my toddlers when he was a newborn. It took a millasecond. No pain. Made a huge difference

I sent my husband to the doctor with the baby and the doctor said it’s small, we should wait a week or two to see if it separates by itself. So my husband left. Obviously I’m second guessing it which is why I’m here.

I appreciate this thread. My five ywar old has speech issues and a tongue tie. I'm considering snipping it. Can you please recommend a good ENT who specializes in Tongue ties?
(Upstate NY, willing to travel to Manhatten)
No dentist, no laser. I had a bad experience in the past with another child. It bled for days than it grew back.

I did laser on my baby's at 4 mths, followed by cranialsacral, which the dentist recommended to help the muscles and bones readjust.
It wasn't bad enough that she couldn't nurse and my ped didn't think she needed it, but I felt that she wasn't really filling up enough, and the lactation consultant recommended I take her to the specialist in Albany.

I used Dr Scott Rickert in NYU. He was gentle and quick.

The first child that had it I didn’t know. I had never heard of if. Only when I took my second child that had it as a newborn and I was commenting on the older child not talking properly did he give a quick look and said it needed to be snipped.

Not snipping it can cause speech and language delays and feeding issues (nursing, bottles, purées food and regular solids). Please make sure it’s an ENT who specializes in this, or it may besnipped not properly and it’ll grow right back.

It does not separate on its own!

I was told my 6 year old has mild tongue tie while in the hospital with her. I never snipped it. It never mattered.
