Is that an accepted name in Anglo chereidi ( like ramat Beit shemesh style ) crowd? Love the name but don't know how it comes across in israel

Possibly. But in Israeli society I think it's considered more old-ladyish, or maybe that's just because the only Chaviva I know in Israel is about 85 years old.

I think it comes under the category of names like Adina, Aliza, Rina - popular amongst American Jews but less so in Israel. So it might be ok in an Anglo community in Israel.

In Israeli society very old fashioned. Not heard a lot in Anglo neighborhoods in Israel in my experience.

Very old fashioned in most circles in Israel, and not in a cool retro way.

That said, I don't think it's a name that anyone will make fun of. And people understand that anglos do things differently Smile

We have a Chaviva in RBS (and previously Jlem) and we've never gotten any weird reactions.
Maybe people were just being polite - I wouldn't say anything if I met a Bertha - but to the point where I totally was unaware that it was an old name.

I think it’s a beautiful and uncommon name. I’d use it in a second.

Old fashioned was what came first to my mind.
On the other hand, my own children have all rather old fashioned tanachic names because they are named after relatives and in one case, a friend, who were well into their eighties. Never had any problems with it. We use short forms or nicknames in daily life.

I love it! I'm not from RBS, but I can't imagine anyone wouldn't like it
