Ds has been having scary thoughts before bed and we decided we should try some silly books to make him laugh before bed. I’m finding that joke books have a lot of inappropriate jokes for his age...any good books that will make him laugh that are age appropriate? Doesn’t have to be a joke book, it could just be a situationally funny fiction book. He’s High level reader

Okay, this might be a bit much for a seven year old, but what about The Hawkins Series? You could skip the ghost chapters and just read the funny ones where Harvey gets a butler.

Jewish comic books shikufitzky and the funny things kids say.

Mrs. Noodlekugel
Henry heckelbeck
Flat Stanley
Horrible harry

PJ Pepperjay is short but age-appropriate. Even for an accelerated reader.

Not high level, but who cares. I find it fun, and I'm in my 30s.

This book is HILARIOUS.
I only wish it didn’t have the word “butt” in it. That’s a word I don’t let my kids say, and so I avoid it in read aloud books especially.

(And my kids read well enough to know if I would change the words)

Off topic but when my son had this his therapist had him think of a safe space and we hung up a beautiful calming picture of his ocean safe space near his bed and he would look at it when he wanted to calm down.
In addition she taught him belly breathing by having him lie down and put stuffed animals on his stomach and slowly breathe in and out and watch the animals go up and down - he found this very amusing!
