Which is nicer? To engrave name in gold or have name on a gold plaque that sticks onto the front of the machzor or siddur?
Also, where do you order those plaques?

This is for me btw.

Any judaica store does it. I personally like the plaque better, because the engraved letters wear out.

Engraved name is beautiful and lasts a long time. I love Eichlers. You can order online.

There are flaws to both options. To me the deciding factor is that a plaque is irritating to my hands when I am holding the sefer and davening. I prefer a smooth cover with no distractions.

In the case of a machzor which is sitting on the shelf for most of the year, a plaque can cause indentations in the cover of the book next to it.

I happen to like the look of the plaque, however I don’t recommend for machzorim as it will damage (possibly rip the leather) over time of the machzor next to it when it’s squeezed tightly together on the shelf or in the case.

I got plaques for my kallah siddur and machzorim, and within a month the glue had loosened and they were falling off. So I definitely would go with engraved.
Unless they make the glue better these days...I'm no spring chicken.

I prefer the look of engraved. I've been using my for quite some many years and you still see the name clearly
