Please help! My five year old daughter sometimes leaks in her panties, I know it's from ongoing strep. Nothing to do about it, really, except pro-biotics. I know that and live with it. Waiting for her to outgrow it, and probiotics help when I remember to give them to her.
Now, she pooped her pants.
She's stained her panties a couple of times already. Usually in school. But not like this! And I know it can be a constipation thing, but her stool isn't hard or anything, so I don't think that's it.

How should I deal with this?

Clean it up and remind her to tell mommy next time she needs to go. Don't shame her or punish her.
Does she usually make at a particular time everyday? Maybe try to remind her around that time?

Also, regarding her leaking, please see a specialist if you have not already, don't assume it is just strep. You could be denying her treatment that she really needs.

Leaking and accidents. Could be constipation. Even if loose.

I asked her what happened, and she said she didn't know she needs to go. She seemed very nonchalant about it... Of course I just threw her stuff into the wash machine and didn't punish her.

About the leaking, of course we checked her out and it's strep. She was on several rounds of increasingly stronger antibiotic, but it didn't get rid of the strep. She tested positive every single time we tested her. After 10 days, after 30 days...
Eventually the doctor told us that she'll outgrow it. It is better when she's on probiotics, and as long as I remember to give it to her, she's okay.
But now this!

So, if it's constipation, what can I do about it? And how can I know if it is?

You can consult with a gastrointerologist. A GI doctor. This is their specialty area.

strongly suggest you find out if she's constipated. the most accurate way that I've found is by getting an x-ray.

My pediatrician diagnosed constipation. And advised how to clear it.
It took a long time.
Some kids have immature bowels and it can time to outgrow.

Some children are healthy strep carriers.

Some kids don't have the patience to stop their activities and sit down on the toilet and wait for results. You may have to insist that she sits with a book to look at, even if she insists that she doesn't have the urge to go. I have seen doctors advise making the child go before school and this can be a struggle because while people can usually produce urine on demand, it's harder to produce poop. At lot of it is just getting the child to disengage from what they are doing.

Maybe it's time to go to the ent and have her tonsils removed. It isnt healthy to be on antibiotics so often. Good luck

Try to find natural treatment for the strep. I’m so glad you know it’s the cause of it all. By the way some pandas kids react badly to probiotics. If you’re on Facebook join some pandas groups. If not try to seek more information on here or in real life with a pandas expert. Bottom line is to know it’s not her fault and let her know that you know it’s a bad bacteria in her body that’s making her do it.

At least a year. I had a son like 6 or 7 that really struggled. He leaked a lot. And would have full blown runny accidents. He took miralax regularly. (BH he is now a teen with no memory of it). I kept getting nervous but my dr told me it’s normal and he sees it all the time.

I have a five year old now that struggles with constipation. Then she holds it in bec it hurts. Gets hemorrhoids. Is scared to go. It’s an ugly process that needs to be broken. I give her mineral oil and that helps a lot. But I don’t think that is the same as immature bowels.

This sounds like a classic case of encopresis. Please discuss this with your doctor

If this is a one-time thing, just clean it up and let it go and don't panic in front of your child. If it happens again, or regularly, then yes, go a doctor and figure it out. For sure when my kids were younger if they were ill, they might have an accident. It happens.
