Mature child, I want to get a manicure and there’s no school or camp this week. Is it safe to leave child home with phone to call me (he knows my number and calls me all the time) and a kids’ (filtered) iPad to keep him busy? He’s the type of kid that will just watch videos or play games for hours on end, so it would definitely keep him busy for the hour that I’m gone.

I would be a seven minute drive away from home.

Very mature 7 year old.
Is that totally unacceptable?

Never. 7 is way too young. Find out what the law is in your state. NYS doesn't have law but suggested age is 12-13 if the child is responsible and intelligent enough.

7 is way to young to leave home alone.
The kid can go to a neighbor or friend for a bit.

Would never leave a 7 year old
Home alone. Too young! Even if it’s a very mature kid.

No way. Take him along. Let him use the iPad at the salon.

I would leave a mature 10 year old if. I had an emergency but not to get a manicure. And not a 7 year old under any circumstance

Minimum ten depending on the circumstances. Not for a mani. Someone I know does this and I think it’s neglectful.

I personally think it is OK if your DC is mature and OK with it.

BUT it is illegal so don't do it.

(In some states it is legal to leave a 6 y.o. alone for short time, and other states say 12).

I got my answer.

If anything I thought it would be more acceptable because I could leave at a moment’s noticed vs something important like a doctor or whatnot where it wouldn’t be as easy to pick up and run.

But either way I got my answer, thanks all.
