Correct but it also proves that high strung isn’t an immutable personality trait. And cbd isn’t psychoactive, it works on endocannabinoid receptors.

It definitely has a calming effect. Similar to alcohol actually without the psychoactive component. I’ve taken it myself at times. Didn’t like how sluggish it made me.

This is really interesting, I feel like this describes my child so much. Would you know of any articles I can read that expands on what you wrote above?
Which part in particular? What I wrote is a compilation of a lot of different ideas.

I would love more info about the variances in brain chemistry in anxious, rigid, “difficult” children. And also about what I can be doing prior to conception to help avoid this.

I somewhat believe in this and have spent thousands of dollars in using practitioners to help guide me bec all my kids struggle with anxiety and other stuff. However we haven’t gotten anywhere. Even with taking them off tons of food and giving them tons of supplements:(
So at this point I just try to model calm behavior but it kills me that I know I can be doing more
You just haven’t found their cause just yet. Don’t give up.

Google scholar maternal immune activation and anxiety, you will get lots of hits

Here’s an article on maternal microbiome and neurodevelopment of offspring

It only shows the serving size for adults. How do I know it’s safe for children? And is it addictive? Do I need dr’s permission to give to kids? Is there such a thing with a hechsher? I do see lots of ingredients in it.

Not addictive, I wouldn’t expect support from a pediatrician but if your kid is medically complex you might have to ask , I would give 1 to a kid but in general adult dosing is based on 160lb so kids dosing is in ratio to that

Thanks. Just curious, there are quite a few versions of CBD how do I know which is best?

With all due respect, and without hijacking the thread, PLEASE have a long talk with your pediatrician (and possibly your child’s therapist) before giving your child CBD.

I don’t care how safe you feel it is, it is a substance you are introducing into your child’s body that
1. he or she has no say in whether or not he or she wants to ingest it
2. Lacks sufficient long range testing (it has not been around long enough)
3. Is derived from a plant that has (in other iterations) severely worrisome effects
4. The fact that you’re extrapolating DOSAGES for a child is extremely worrisome

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. At best (???) CBD is a bandaid that muffles (suffocates?) your kids’ less pleasant aspects, at worst it can be a genuine medical risk.

Signed by the mom of an ADHD, ODD, super high octane, often violent child that would be very convenient to “soothe” with CBD but I would never ever EVER please Gd consider such a thing without EXTENSIVE medical encouragement (ie, at least three doctors or specialists guiding me and teaching me the full biology and side effects and possible future effects, plus a Rabbi’s guidance, and then only with constant monitoring and only for short term while my child would learn coping mechanisms that do not require long term usage of any substance.)

instead, we do therapy and behavioral intervention and possibly short-term, clinically proven medication that can help the child learn how to better handle their neurology without medication or external substances. It’s not pleasant at all and is a money pit and is exhausting but this is my tafkid, and trying to avoid that need by ironing it away with a bottle would be a grave injustice for my kid.

OP, I'll tell you something that my rabbi told me.

"Your child's greatest challenges are going to be their greatest strengths when they get older. Your job is to learn how to channel their natural behavior into constructive areas."

The bossy kid is going to be a leader.
The rambunctious kid is going to be an athlete.
The shy kid is going to be a philosopher.
The nerd is going to be Bill Gates (LOL!)
The bookworm is going to be a famous novelist.

You get the idea. Now look at your child's current challenges, and ask yourself how that could work in the adult world. Start giving them jobs, after school stuff, trips to the library, whatever it takes to work with them, and not against them.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, "Parenting Kids with Love and Logic" is the best book I've ever read. "How They Learn" is also excellent.

A lot of it is nature. I'm laid back (usually) by nature and modeling is so important. You can be strong willed and laid back too. It's about recognizing what is actually important and when to stick to your guns. So many people (adults included) make a fuss about things that ultimately are not that important.

What if I tried all this and now my tafkid is to try helping them with cbd because Hashem created that too and maybe the yeshua lies there?

I think amother's point is that we can't even evaluate how dangerous it might be since it lacks long term data, proper studies for dosaging based on age, side effects, etc.

How is CBD not a form of medication?! I'm not a scientist, but I think we have a lot less control over these things than a previous poster has stated. And I don't believe everything has to do with gut bacteria.

A lot of what posters are describing here is not strong willed. Most of these are normal childhood behavior or anxiety. And why is the answer to always dump stuff in their body? That’s just a crutch and it really doesn’t help them long term. They are better off dealing with the issues and learning self regulating and coping skills. But back to my main point most of this is not strong willed.
