For as long
As I can remember
I’ve been
In exile

Lost
Alone
Wandering
This beautiful earth
Searching for
My home

So many times
I’d sense
A spark
Of the familiar
In a place
In a time
In someone’s eyes
And I’d allow myself
To hope
Maybe
Maybe this time

But as quickly
As I’d found it
Just as soon
As I laid my walking stick down
It disappeared
Sometimes cruelly snatched away
Ripping pieces of my heart
Along with it
Leaving jagged scars
Other times
Stealthily
Slipping away
Until I turned around
And it was gone

Still
I kept looking
For that elusive something
Someone
Someplace
That will take me in
Hold me
With all my rough edges
Soothe them
Smooth them over
With love

Until
One day
As I observed
My pain
My shame
My fear
Squeezing tight
Through every part
Of my body
There was nowhere to run
No one
To come and save me
From myself
So I stayed
I held it
Held it all
And whispered softly
“You have come home”

Beautiful, Brickred.

The poem "Exile"

It is about a lonely person who becomes her own friend and finds strength within herself?

If I ever write a book
It will be to say
That there are too many books
And not enough time
To read them all

I’m drowning in a quicksand

I don't want to live forever,
I just want to
somehow?
read everything
see everything
do everything
in one lifetime.

The shadows on the wall,
Are dancing in the dark.
Frightening me,
Laughing at me,
And making me shout.

But deep inside,
I know the truth.
There's no use being afraid,
cause,
T'is my own reflection.

Don't remember if it was 7th or 8th grade.

Haiku:

Nature's Candy

Wild blooms spill like sweets/
On chipped concrete. Little boy/
Your pockets have holes.

Wrinkles

Years of toil/
Line my face/
Furrows in the soil.

K technically the second one doesn't qualify... help me complete it!

Nice. How about:

Years of toil and joy
Frame my eyes (or mouth- pick one) and line my face
Furrows in the soil

Boredom is timeless
And forever
And vain
Boredom is empty
And huge
And lame
Boredom is hateful
And angry
And shame
Boredom is lonesome
And depressing
And pain

You never had a chance
You never were able to be
be a child
and just dance
Never were you able to just laugh
just cry
just be

Girl cry,
now is the time to cry
let out those tears
scream til your voice hits the sky
cry like you've never before
cry, because you're allowed to
you deserve to
Make up for all those years

You missed out
Missed out on being a child
missed on learning who you are
learning no matter who you are
you are loved
You count
no matter what

Girl cry,
now is the time to cry
let out that anger
scream til your voice hits the sky
Let your insides come out
It's okay to know and to shout
shout out in pain
Don't let it keep you down no more,
now is the time to fly

Don't let it hold you back
it's time to let it go
and take to the stage
the stage of life to begin your real show
Show them you won't dwell on your rage
they won't win
It's time to live
You deserve it
You deserve it

You look at me
You think you see
A picture
Its all a mask
A dreadful task
A mixture.

The bully in school
So mean, so cruel
A tyrant
Its all a mask
A horrible task
Her shame be silent.

A beautiful smile
Watched for a mile
How perfect.
Its all a mask
A hopeful task
See no conflict.

Dressed to the nines
She wines and dines
Brilliant splendor.
Its all a mask
A weary task
Not to surrender.

All rules at sea
She wants to be free
Crossed the red tape
Its all a mask.
A torturous task
The agony to escape.

Angry and corruptive
Terribly disruptive
Yelling and screamin'.
Its all a mask
An impossible task
To fight his own demon.

Dressed but in rags
Living out of bags
Regarded as a creature
Its all a mask
An oh so sad task
He was created pure.

So...
The next girl we see
With a smile too wide
The next person to be
Nasty and snide
The next man who breaks
A rule set in stone
The next beggar who takes
Anything that's thrown

Let’s keep in mind
We’re all sometimes in costume
All differently designed
To wash away the gloom
The mask might be the plank
Keeping us afloat
Our own oxygen tank
Until the rescue boat
Let us all be kind
We cannot judge, ever
Be gentle to all mankind
Even (especially?) when looking in the mirror.

You called me creepy
I swallowed my pride
You called me insecure
And I wanted to hide
You kept yourself back
But I shouldn’t say you lied
You told me “We’re so alike”
I believed you and I cried
You said you could handle me
But I don’t think you tried
Just think I'm a drama queen
Any responsibility denied
Proved all my fears true
Until another part of me has died

To love or to exist
To numb or to grieve
To remember or forget
To stay or to leave

To take the risk
Or to let go
To fool myself
Or let them know

Tear the family
Or myself
Or both
Or get help

I can’t give up
On my dream
I need to take
Responsibility

Will I choose
Or will it choose me
If I give up
Will I be free?

When my heart feels so alone
And my soul frozen in stone
And my face feels hot and cold
And my body a jelly like hold

When my toes are tingling through
And my arms are trembling too
And my brain is on a spin
Because I’m shaken up within

Do I have anything to lose
I’m living life a ruse
Not for myself or others though
How far do things need to go

My pain cuts me with knives
Everyones living their own lives
I really got no where to turn
My own fire is my burn

Dont want to feel, dont want to think
Need a distraction heavy to sink
Need a blank and empty space
I need peace and I need grace.

Amother Hosta, this is beautiful. Can I share this on a mental health forum I am part of? I believe many of the frum women there will gain a lot of comfort from it.
