The wall oven is on a wall with a tall pantry and fridge freezer
The closest counter is the island behind it, which is 5’ apart.
Is that too far?

Probably, though it depends on your dimensions and the kind of cooking you do. Try this test: Fill a roasting pan with water to within 1/2 inch of the top and place it in the cold oven. Put on oven mitts, then pull the pan from the oven and try to carry it to the island without bracing it against your midsection and without spilling. If you succeed, the distance is probably OK; if you spill, fuhgeddaboudit. Consider that when the pan will be hot from the oven, you won't be able to hold on to it, even with oven mitts, for as long as you can hold it when it's cold.

If you never roast meat or poultry or cook cholent or stews in the oven and use it just for baking cakes and challah, the distance is less critical because you can move faster and get the pan to the counter before your hands start to burn.

What’s the distance with the oven door open

I think 5ft is fine

I love extra space! I have I believe 3-4 feet but I hate squishy islands. Love the flowy airy feel (although I don't know about practicality)

I think you'll be OK although 4 feet would be better.

The other side of the island has 4 feet from island to counters. That side of island has dairy dishwasher, and the counter has dairy oven and cooktop and sink
So should I center the island so each side had 4.5 feet?

1) How wide is the island?

2) Does the main traffic pattern through the kitchen go through one side?

3) Does your island have seating on either side?

Not sure the width of island - it has 2 cabinets back to back if that says anything?

Main traffic will probably be where the ovens are - that “aisle”

No seating at island

Thank you!

If the perimeter counter on the other side is an L shape and the island end lines up with it, keep as is. Otherwise, either center the island or you can make the island deeper. It sounds like it's 51" now — 48" + 3" counter overhang. Making the island deeper by adding some "dead" space between the back-to-back cabinets could make outlet placements a lot easier — but there are some unknowns here, like what is going to cover the island sides.

Ok, gotta get back to the K family's basement plan revision and then Mrs. S's 1A kitchen plan. Smile

Just rechecked the plans
The island is 48” wide
The kitchen has an L shape counter and then one wall is the ovens fridge
The remaining - 4th - wall has nothing - the table
Is there
Hope that’s clear!
Thank you!
