Thanks, I tried it.
The aperture goes down to 2.8, but not on full zoom, like Zahava said. It took me a while to figure out what it is that makes the aperture go up. I figured I'd set the aperture to the lowest and zoom a bit, too to get both effects.
Anyway, yeah, I use aperture priority. The shutter speed set itself, and so did all other components, which I couldn't get so quickly on manual mode.
But it didn't blur the background as much as I would've liked. Maybe just a smidgen.
Unfortunately I forgot which pictures I took on zoom and which on open aperture.
I'll try to remember next time so I can post the difference.

Gamzu, your pics are awesome.
by the way, Made in Japan is not a bad t hing. Japan is one of the most technically advanced countries, even more so than the US of A. Japan is not like China.
