I bought a corned beef first cut brisket. I usually boil my corned beef. The package says to submerge in water and put in the oven for 4 hours at 300 degrees. Will that work? Should I use hot or cold water in the baking dish?

Yes sounds right. Hot or cold doesn’t matter

You can also use a crockpot (my preferred method).

Corned beef is cooked because it is very salty and cooking removes some of the salt.
Raw Brisket is not salted and does not have to be cooked.
Here is my DIL's recipe (hope I remember it correctly)
2-3 onions, sliced into rings, sauted
Sauce: - mix together in the roasting pan, then add the onions.
3 T. Onion soup mix
3 T. Brown Sugar
1/4 c. Ketchup
1 c. water
-------------------------------
Cover pan tightly with foil. Bake at 350 for 3 - 4 hours - depending how many pounds yr brisket is.
Refrigerate brisket for at least 2 hours (or overnight) before slicing.
Rewarm in the sauce.

Can someone tell me how to make this in the crockpot - we are going to be away most of the day and need to put up now. It is totally defrosted. Would also like to put in potatoes and oninons.
