I think it’s ridiculous that parents give in to fads for kids

Results in spoiled brats

I think it's ridiculous to call this giving into kids.

My kids are older now and I miss those days when they were into collections and stuff. We love spending time as a family remembering the silly fads, and my kids remember all the little chachkes I bought them better than I do. I'm so happy I 'gave in' and they have these memories now.

You sound like you were deprived as a child. Sadly it leads to bitter adults who find fault with silly things.

I was one of those deprived kids. I'm from one of the first mothers today to give in to a fad if it's something reasonable. Stickers, napkins, you can find them for so cheap so why not. I don't want my kids to have that "left out" feeling that I always had. And my parents were filthy rich! They always played the "I'm the poorest" game.

I think these trends are from the most innocuous things kids want that we can say yes to. So I do so gladly, within reason.

I actually love these fads. They're relatively cheap things usually and it's good to motivate children with.
Anyone remember tiny tots? I used to dream about them😅

If they demand things and you give in to everything they demand, yes, they'll be spoiled.

But if there's a fad and there's nothing wrong with it and all the kids are playing with harmless (and often cheap!) stickers/rubber bands/napkins/erasers/pop its/fidget whatevers and you get them for your child within reason, no reason they'll become spoiled.

Interesting to see what people are answering because what's in by you is long out by us... For my students it keeps on changing. Last year it was doctor stickers but at some point it was all out and students didn't want it. After that they loved squishies. Bought a large assorted box on amazon and they loved earning that.

I think every school and neighborhood has their own fad and it goes around and around.
