Two issues here:
1) the crazy prices
2) the lack of expiration dates on most heimishe snack bags.

Sure...what is a snack bag?

Might sound like a silly question, but after reading the first two posts here, I'm not sure I know what it is. So I can't help you but I'm just curious.

So make your own bags and buy items in bulk.

Price is better and they make small containers specifically for snacks if your kids would bring them back which even saves the cost of bags.

I haven't seen anything for .30 in a long-time. Herrs which used to be so cheap are now .75 each! I buy whatever I can find cheap on Amazon and bake a lot.

Lays chips and rold gold pretzels are usually less than .50. Otherwise I constantly search and sometimes there are deals.

If you don’t keep cholov Yisroel: utz snack pack at target $11 for 28 bags.

Herrs variety pack similar price.

I agree though. It’s all insane. Get big bags on sale and divide up into small.

It’s always been like that. Has it gotten worse recently? We don’t get chips often. Do the bags weigh less now?

Agree! Even when the snack bags have expiration they tend to get stale much earlier. I bought cases when Onion rings and corn pops were on sale. A few weeks later and my kids won't touch them...I tasted and they really are bad. The dates are a few months out. Potato chips last ok.

I think that at one time some of the snack size bags were about 1.6 ounces and now they are all 1 ounce.

I still don't understand why the need for snack packs when you can so easily make your own with no effort. Not to mention being able to make stuff like trail mix inexpensively as well which kids love and is a bit healthier than chips.

You can get a huge bag of chips or pretzels or cheetahs for about 25 cents or less per ounce.

But it actually doesn’t come out cheaper. I tried this and the kids just take more per bag they make. Somehow they are ok with the snack bags coming with 10 chips, but if making our own baggies 10 chips look pathetic.
