My sister used to make shidduchim with another young woman who liked to make shidduchim (both did it unofficially).

They were once talking, and the conversation went something like this… “I have a sister” “I have a brother!” And the rest is is history BH! LOL

I voted friend/acquaintance, then realized ironically it's almost all! A Chabad shliach that taught in the school I worked in (I'm also Chabad) knew my husband's family from his hometown. I had become friendly with that rabbi and his family through teaching his kids. And so happens to be he also is a shadchan on the side! He bumped into my husband at a wedding in their hometown, thought through the single staff at the school, came to me, and the rest is history.

My great aunt works as a shadchan for harder cases. She was trying to help my in laws with a shidduch for my bil when she heard about their younger son and thought it was perfect for me….

My brothers idea and my parents went to a Shadchan to suggest it, but it was just a technicality
