There is a dr at Meuchedet nearby that we saw out of pocket for my son that had an ear infection. We got the name from Chaim V’Chesed. Try calling them?

He must be on a kupat cholim of some sort - likely Meuchedet. If so, he can just go in to the branch and ask for a doctor. If he's not sure, he should ask in the Mir office and they'll tell him where he can go.

Wolfson in Rechavia has a great clinic with some American doctors. I believe they have walk-in (no appt needed) until 8 am. You can pay privately, no need for insurance. 02-5610297

The simplest solution is to let him go through whatever kupah is handling his insurance. (I assume he has some sort of insurance in this program).

My son went to Dr Stien about 2 yrs ago highly recommends. Didn’t have health insurance but we got reimbursed from travel insurance when he got back end of Zman.

Meuchedet will accept anyone on a student visa very quickly, he can just go into the beis yisroel branch and sign up
Not sure if he is not on a student visa yet but he can try asking
Otherwise they may agree to take him privately

Some of the doctors mentioned above allow people to pay privately.

If not, he can go to Terem.

I googled Terem for him on Friday and the closest one was a 10 minute drive from Mir.

Maybe I dont know what the correct address is?

He should be on a Visa already. I'll do some research tomorrow but it hasn't been easy to reach anyone in Isreal.

I am afraid his travel insurance won't be active at all because it was a one way ticket.

I think they automatically set the return date for a day later. I have to check it out.

Your son can go into the Mir office and ask where to go.

You don't need to be calling from abroad for him, it's not the type that these offices will answer their phones the whole time anyway

Good luck

This sounds very far from Mir. I know he will never go if it is so far and go with the smart advice of his friends that doctors aren't necessary and that all illnesses eventually pass so he should just drink tea. 🙄

How is this possible?

Is he an Israeli citizen or is he here on a foreign passport?

Doesn't a place as prestigious as Mir have some person who coordinates health insurance coverage for students before they enroll?

Sorry to be alarmist, but he really needs some form of insurance. Hopefully all he has now is a bad cold, but an injury or even appendicitis could be a big deal without insurance.

Ideally, try to get him onto Maccabi or Meuchedet, so that he can get seamless treatment. Both have plenty of English speaking doctors in Jerusalem.

Traveling half an hour by bus, or ten minutes by taxi, to Wolfson or to Terem shouldn't be such a big deal. Suggest that a friend go with him.

Also, it's IsrAel (Yisrael) not Isreal.
