I've been wanting to do that for a while, but my full time job and motherhood kind of put that on the back burner. I have to say, I gathered inspiration from all of you people who are in full swing. Now, how do I get started?

Can I learn from books alone? Or do I need someone to train me one-on-one?

Well, I'm a big fan of trial and error. Gather some general tips, and then play around with camera settings. Smile

General tip:
>Get onto kids' level. Don't photograph kids from your full height.
>Make sure the background is nice if possible. (I sometimes set my kids up to play in a nicer area of the park just for the photos. Or I take pics when they're high up on a jungle gym, where sky is their background.)
>Always press the shutter button halfway to pre-focus before pressing it fully for the pic.

Read your user manual to get a feel of the settings available to you and try them out! Then read online.

What kind of camera do you have, by the way?

There are some good online sources for classes. I have been looking at my local community college for classes, but the problem is timing. There was nothing that interested me this summer, and the fall is out because of the yom tovim.

What camera are you looking at? I have the Nikon D40, and I am anxiously awaiting Nikon to bring out the replacement for the D80 and hoping to upgrade.

That's actually the one I was considering. I heard about shutterbug but I have no idea if it's any good. I think I'll stick to pop photo. I love their website and I trust them.

Good for you! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I'm looking forward to see your pics!

I remember from when I ordered their brochure that they offer a variety of courses. Which one did you sign up for?

Professional Photography...
They also offer Photoshop (which I know already), and a more basic photography course.
