If my child has one on his thigh and it swelled a lot and is very red but the others haven't (remained same size and fades away) would that indicate an allergy?

Yes. I had that. Interesting part was the kid had a few mosquito bites on the leg and only one really swelled up, firey red almost infected like. Dr told me it's totally normal.

so what did you do? I guess I should go check it out?
Is that considered that he has an allergy?

I don't remember what he did because it was a few years ago. I just remember because it was very interesting to me that the same leg with a few bites the kid only had a reaction to one. I remember going into the Dr's office convinced that the Bite turned into cellulitis that's how bad it looked.

It's not generally considered a true allergy but it is a sign of excess histamine

It can be a regular (generally harmless) allergy. I had this as a kid...my whole limb would swell up with a regular mosquito bite. I outgrew it by my mid 20s. Otc allergy meds like Benadryl helped but of course you have to balance the side effects and decide whether it's worth it. One of my cousins has it too and one of my kids is showing signs of it.

I have a grandchild that his eyes swell up when he gets bitten
Dr. said to give Benadryl and to watch that he doesn’t have trouble breathing
All the bites swell up as well
