I bought a fridge Thermometer and the numbers keep changing. Is that normal? Where should the Thermometer be kept? Also Google said to keep it in a glass of water??

The refrigerator temperature would normally fluctuate because every time you open a door you let in warm air and then the refrigerator would need to cool it back down to the temperature you set.

That is why (theoretically) refrigerators sometimes are configured to minimize the amount of time and the number of times a door is opened - they have water in the door and some even have a separate compartment for drinks etc. so that the refrigerator's main compartment isn't open.

Also why if the power fails the advice is to keep your refrigerator closed as much as possible so that the interior stays cool for as long as possible - or at least long enough to transfer food to a cooler with ice.

Standard advice is to have the thermometer in the middle towards the door where it most accurately reflects the average temperature since the back is the coldest.
