Can someone please teach me how to create some nice labels (preferably in Word) for Kids' school supplies that I can print on standard size rectangular labels. (I will email them to a friend who will print them on the labels she has: 30 on a page and/or 80 per page.)

try these instructions

In my opinion, easier and quicker to hand write the labels though!

Much easier. Just make a free account and pick your label template. When finished press print yourself and it will open as a PDF.

I got a Brother label maker which prints out labels with their special tape

It is a great organizing tool as I also use it to label boxes or other items that are stashed in closets.

Whle I don't use it every day, it is very functional and I think also the labels are sturdier than the paper adhesive labels.

Thank you so much for your replies! We've been doing the handwritten thing up until now, but currently have a bad case of carpel tunnel syndrome... So thanks for your help!

Cut out tiny strips of paper, write names on them, and stick them on with selotape.
Doesn't take that long.

We use clear return address labels. I print out an entire page per child in small print (name and phone number). It's really easy to do in word, but maybe easier on Avery.com (never tried). It's great as I use them to label everything for that child and also keep them handy for other things that come up at other times. I also print a family label that I use to label other items, like books that we lend out etc.

I order custom labels from Amazon. They can be used for clothes as well.

I used word all the time when my kids were younger I added in a cute picture on each of their labels like a basketball, butterfly, smiley face etc. ... you can then print on Avery Labels or any store brand labels like staples or office depot brand.

In word, click the mailing tab then click on labels and choose the type of label then click new document. Design one label, highlight that label, then do it again making sure to check the full page of same label tab.
