very recently my preschooler has been complaining about sadness for no reason at night. she's just like " I'm just sad, I don't know why..." . I saw on line that it's too early to worry- it's only been like two days but still wondering if anyone has experienced this and what did they do?

I’d say start asking her why she’s sad, what’s making her sad, did someone make her sad at home? Maybe it’s making her sad bc after a long day her mind is drifting of what happened to her during the day and it’s getting piled in her head at that hour.
Sending you hugs, bc I know it’s not easy watching your precious Neshomah so sad. And glad your catching this early bc the internet isn’t always right. You got this. You’re doing great.

I used to feel like this as a kid. I would complain that I was homesick, despite being home. I still feel this way randomly. Wish I can tell you why but I'm still not sure... Being tired is probably part of it though. It's also possible that she has time to think about stuff at night and might remember something sad she heard (story, or saw something in school that triggered her)

Sundowning is a syndrome that affects people with dementia, and it causes confusion, anxiety, aggressiveness, pacing and wandering off. It doesn't cause melancholy. I'm betting this child feels melancholy when she's tired. Few people are able to be cheery and chipper when they're very tired.
