When I was a kid I really wanted a sewing machine. I made my parents crazy about it!
What is something that you were dying for as a kid that you can now look back at and laugh about?

A stamp collection.
As in postage stamps
My parents bought me a kit one year for Chanukah and it’s still collecting dust under my bed.

All I wanted in 6th grade was a Ralph Lauren sweater for school like the “cool kids” had. Didn’t dream of asking my parents and when they got a hand me down it went to my more demanding sister.
When I was in second grade I dreamed of a black sparkly wheelie briefcase.

A cabbage patch doll. They were in when I was about 8. I dreamed of getting one. (I got a cheap knock-off).
One of my nieces wanted an elephant. I still remember the tantrum she had when her mother wouldn't buy her one, after she saw one at the circus. I told her kids about it, and they cracked up that their mother wanted that....

Interesting. When I came back from seminary my mother insisted on buying me a pair, because that's what all the girls were wearing. I think I wore them a few weeks, until I could find a pair of shoes I actually liked. It's the only time I remember my mother taking notice of what was fashionable (and I mean that in a positive way).
