Yes I grew up there. I love living here, it's a great place to bring up kids. Until about ten years ago I knew everyone but it's growing fast, still recognize most people by face.

Why are so many of the youngest generation (teenagers and kids) embarrassed of living in Gateshead?

Seems like the older generation is super proud and rightfully so! Such a Shame.

Also, how do you feel about the Yeshivos and Seminaries practically taking over your town? Is it annoying to bump into them all the time?

I find the girls here are not as embarrassed as the Gateshead girls of the last gen, it's just a way of talking! Teenage girls do very well here-it's easy to be a someone, in a good way.

The mosdos are part of what makes gateshead what it is. It's a big part of living here, in fact growing up a third of my classmates had fathers teaching in one of the Yeshivos or Sems.
There's give & take both ways-girls hang out at our homes and come for shab and yom tov meals, and they help with babysitting, shab cooking. Works well.
At the moment I have bochurim at home so can't have girls round but my boys like bringing their OOT friends for meals etc.

I was in Seminary a few years ago and the Gateshead girls we're absolutely mortified by the fact. I wish they we're more confidant to socialise. They feel looked down upon and I think they were looked down upon.

Are you worried your girls might have such a complex?

From what I understand, boys in the Gateshead community really aren't llike that and are pretty sought after in shidduchim.

Also, I found the extreme yeshivishnos quite interesting. People live so so simply, probably the most in the Jewish world. It's a great value in some communities but hard to comprehend in others.

My girls are more confidant then I was about being a Gatesheader! I guess it was hard coming from a small class in school to a huge sem class. It's overwhelming!
You're right about the boys, they don't have that complex.
How long ago were you in sem here?

Sorry Red, I only saw half your post.
It's not so much that noone cares about gashmiyus, it's more that it doesn't really matter what u do, you'll fit in. You wanna match all your kids clothes, great. If you don't, also great! Same with holidays-some send to camp for a couple of weeks in the summer, others go abroad whilst still others rent their own house out and take a cottage in Scotland or the Lakes. Or stay home and do day trips. We try to live and let live.

In my days, gateshead had one dr all the sem girls went to (dr. cope) who would bang their knee and tell them what's wrong. Is still like that?

Hey I was in new sem one of the first years it started. Dont remember that many gateshead girls sleeping in.

Some girls sleep in, some don't-I officially but my bed at home was too comfortable, and my room was so quiet! Roommates use to wish they could come home with me for a good night's sleep Very Happy

Dr. Cope retired a few years ago. In RBS now.

Do you have married kids in manchester or in sem/yeshiva? If similar stage to me, we may have been in sem together
