If I bought 2 of these dresses, do you think a good dressmaker could add a second sleeve and make it look like a proper, cohesive dress?

Possibly, but the sleeve to be added would be backwards, so it would need to be opened completely-definitely get the biggest size for the added sleeve

I think the cost of alterations plus the additional dress, may not be worth it. Why not find a dress with both sleeves already there?

Gorgeous dress!!

I don't know a ton about alterations, but my amateur suggestion is not to bother with this.

Firstly the sleeve is a big deal. You have to essentially create not only a sleeve, but a cohesive front that doesn't look sewn on, and you'd have to somehow get a zipper in somewhere so the neckline is closed but you can get the dress on and off.

Also, the cut of the dress by the slit looks like it might be problematic - if you sew it up, it's possible the dress will be too tight to walk comfortably. You can theoretically size up, close the slit, and take in the waist so it fits, but this is all starting to sound like a whole lot of work.

Not worth it! Looks like a tremendous amount of work. And not cheap either. $600 just for the dresses plus at least $100 for alterations if not more...
Results are not guaranteed to look really nice either!

Op, not a good idea. You need a lot of fabric and a really good seamstress to get this right and make it look good on you. If you really want this, take the picture to someone who’s good at alterations and ask if she’d even consider the job, before you buy the dresses.
