They wouldn't say that they are from China but some of them very possibly are....especially the cheaper prices shaitels.

I got an expensive custom wig made in Israel and she said she sews all the wefts on in her workroom in Israel but there's a certain part of the cap where the individual hairs are knotted into the cap and it's extremely time consuming and tedious so that gets outsourced to China and that's what everyone does.

posting as anonymous because I've told this story to a gazillion people.
From a friend who has her own line of sheitels:

Most sheitels are made in China. The difference in price are for the following reasons:

1) Most hair is not sourced in China. it can be sourced in Brazil, Eastern Europe, Mongolia (I guess that's China!) , etc... One factor is that the more expensive lines will have workers actually sit down with piles of hair and pick out the good hair, strand by strand. They will check that the cuticle is running the same way, the strand isn't damaged, etc...

2) Another factor is that more expensive lines will likely have an extra foreman in the factory doing quality control, likely a native Chinese person who they pay extra to (but could be someone from the sheitel company) . This means that they are not just relying on the Chinese workers to do their jobs, but they are checking (thoroughly) to ensure that the different components are being sewed correctly, etc..

3) The last factor that she mentioned is how the hair is treated. for example, she told me that a certain high end line coats each and every strand with a silicone coating. This is very time consuming process, but it makes the hair stronger and it looks nicer for longer. That's just one example, but it's just another reason why one brand is more than another brand...

hope that helps explain a little bit.
