I love square dinnerware. Who cares what’s in, it’s not like you need to replace dinnerware every year to stay in style. You’re not wearing it!

I think round is more classy like for formal China & is also easier to fit in cabinets & dishwashers

I vote for round. Squares present extra work, to wit, turning them the right way to set them in a rack to dry or in the dishwasher or cabinet. A round dish goes in any old way.
