Anyone have a kid who is mentally and emotionally going backwards after having surgery? What to do?

My niece went for play therapy to allow her the space to act out her trauma and process it. It also helped her deal with all the other stuff around her ongoing medical issues.

My son doesn't want to go to school...my dh doesn't have steady income of jobs....I took off 2 weeks already because he needed surgery and I was supposed to return on Monday! I'm afraid we are going to lose my job, We are going to lose the house...then what? I have no family where I live and I live oot. If my dh takes off we lose money because he gets paid hourly.

Can you start back with half day at work/school and each day add one hour? Today is the last day home - give him lots of love and attention and explain how you must go back to work but you will let him start with a half day to ease back in.
Is there anything specific that is making him uncomfortable or more of a general anxiety?
Is there any staff member at the school that would be more attuned to him and can help him transition back?

Does your child have ongoing health issues or is this a one time surgery?
He might need to be pushed to go back to school but once he is there will be distracted by friends and fun.
