Also, if anyone can please recommend good picture books for preschoolers that work on phonological awareness skills. Thanks

If you can get an evaluation by Sarah Liebster she specializes in phonological awareness and will really pinpoint areas of weakness and how to address them.

Dr Seuss books rhyme well and have great rhythm. Yossi and leibel books too. I don't recommend just any Jewish rhyming book. A lot of times, they try too hard and it's not intuitive for the child to cloze the line

Read 2 books to your child every day before bed.
Take them to the library and get books, any that your child is interested it.
Play games with your child. get a few items and put them in front of you ask if he can find the item that starts with "mmm" or "ssss". Model for him how you would do it. exaggerate the sound as you model by thinking out loud. Then let him have a turn to find an item. You can have a mirror and have him practice the sound in front of the mirror so he sees how his mouth forms the sound. Then when he chooses an item he can say the word in from of the mirror again.
If he can do this, you can try to see if he can come up with words on his own that start with a certain sound. Don't mention letter names yet. Start with just recognizing begining sounds.
If he cant do the activity, you can show him 3 things, 2 of which start with the same sounds and the third that has a different sound, and see if he can identify the one that has a different beginning sound. always model and exaggerate the first sound before you ask.
Praise his efforts!!
