I have a couple of boys, between the ages of 9 and 14, who like historical fiction and nonfiction history. I don't want any mention of affairs, crushes of any kind, or pictures that are not tznius. Anyone have any ideas?

They've been okay with the "Who was..." series for a while, and some other books I've found on a similar level. They really like longer books, but I get 200 pages in and find that there's something romance-related or whatever. So I'd love to get some books that at least someone on here can vouch for as being clean.

(I'm Emerald on the other thread, and I included lots of books I'd read through for another kid who liked fantasy. These kids don't. I'm hoping there's someone else who's done the legwork already and can help me...)

The AVI books are amazing. Super well written and interesting- you might enjoy them too! The Secret School jumps to mind- I don't think there's anything objectionable in them but someone who read it more recently can confirm

Do your kids read graphic novels?

NATHAN HALE, Hazardous Tales books would fit what you are looking for if yes.

The My name is America books(19), are out of print if you can find them.

Guts & Glory Series by Ben Thompson

109 Forgotten American Heroes-Chris Ying, Brian McMullen

I think the pictures are OK in all of the books.

Johnny Tremaine has a crush on the beautiful socialite. Later he gets jealous when his friend "walks home" a girl. At the end of the story it is implied that Johnny will pursue that girl.

But it's a fantastic book.

My boys love Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales. But I just want to warn OP that one of them has some pictures of woman with very revealing necklines... only mentioning because OP specifically said she doesn't want untznius pictures. I'm pretty sure it was the one about Marquis de Lafayette. And if I remember correctly, the other ones are pretty okay.
