An accountant can do taxes for people in other states.

They can, but they charge more for that because the programs used charge them extra. Usually around an extra $100 or so.

This is not true. While there may be reciprocity in certain states, generally a CPA needs to be licensed to do state returns in the state of which he is licensed.
Federal returns may be a different story.

This doesn't even make any sense. Investors or other individuals are required to file returns in any state where they have nexus or sourced income; no CPA is licensed in all 50 states!

The state tax laws are tricky though, so you're probably better off using an accountant who has experience filing in your state.

Agreed, he may be the best in the business. But in the interest if transparency, it's still appropriate to disclose that it's your husband (father, brother, etc.).

And also be aware that if someone is posting their spouse, it's not an objective opinion of someone who used them and is posting from the pov of a client who was satisfied.
Do your own research.

I’m planning to use freetaxusa.com. Free federal filing, $14.99 for the state filing. I only have W2 income so I don’t have a need for an actual accountant.

Perhaps specify where you live first? Don't worry, no one will figure you out based on that......
