My child probably has a mild form of Pan/pandas - been at this since May and recently saw a specialist who confirmed my theory. Have only given antibiotics for active infections and once my ped let us do a 2 week trial. Symptoms I feel are mild- don’t keep dc from school bH.

A week later dc was complaining of sore throat, wet the bed, and noticed heightened sensory issues and irritability. Brought to pediatrician and had positive rapid (faint but positive) and started treating with abx. A few days later the doctor said the culture is negative. Pandas moms what would you do? I’m worried to keep dc on abx if there isn’t an active infection but there is a mini flare of symptoms and me and other dc also had rapid positives….

My son was just diagnosed with Pandas. We just started with antibiotics, and I see a tiny difference. From what upheaval we are going through, Id reccomend go on antibiotics before it gets worse. Tho id definitely ask your dr first

If you see improvement with abx, give it. First line of treatment for pandas is extended course of abx, regardless of what the culture says and whether there is an active infection or not.
And don't make the same mistake as me of saying it's mild and rather not take the risk of giving abx. Unless you are super armed with alternative resources to treat immediately and aggressively. You need to nip this in the bud, otherwise it will get worse and much harder to treat.

There are herbal alternatives to abx that can do a similar job, if you want to go down that route.

And I'm very crunchy fwiw. Never gave my kid antibiotics or any medicine before this, not even Tylenol for teething
