My sixteen and a half month old is not walking and has no intentions of doing so. She walks holding on, only IF (and that's a big if) she wants to. She has finally begun to stand on her own, no holding on, also only when she wants to. But still no walking. I am getting desperate, especially since I am in my ninth month and will IY"H have another one to hold and carry around soon.

Any ideas, tips, or advice on how to get her to walk, the sooner the better?

TIA

unfortunately, I have no advice for you cuz I was in the same boat. bh, ds started walking at 16 months when I was 7 months pregnant with his younger brother, but I was going insane until he did. maybe the fact that I was in alot of pain and couldnt hold him so he was forced to helped.

one suggestion, take her to the park. there are so many bars and things to hold on to, she may not even realize she's walking while having a great time.

hatzlacha, I know its tough

my baby just started walking at 17 months. I got her a baby with a carriage she walked with it until she let go one day. I really feel for you. I was going nuts. I also put pedipeds on her every day which helped.

None of my kids walked before sixteen months. My oldest didn't walk until my second was four months old. What a party that was. You can have her evaluated, but it is within the range of normal for some kids. I didn't walk until 18 months and my husband was 17 months. We weren't going to have a kid jumping out of his crib at 9 months.

My kids never walked until 14-15 months at the earliest... and one didn't start walking until 20 months. She just scooted around happily on her tush. Then all of a sudden, she walked, and within a few weeks, she was running everywhere and there was no way to tell that she had just learned.

Relax and enjoy your child. Walking is a developmental milestone and there is no way to rush it. B'shaah tovah. Very Happy

Nice to know I'm not alone!

OP - I think you'll manage fine with a non-walking toddler and a baby. Lots of people have done it before you. A double stroller is your friend!

my girls walked at 13 & 14 months. I now have to chase after my 18m dd constantly. she runs now & is much faster than her very pregnant mother. this summer I had a bizarre situation. a mommy who was unable to lift, a 5 year old who couldn't walk (broken leg) & a toddler who ran everywhere. I loved my double stroller. after this summer, I think 2 non walking, lightweight children are much easier.

There is nothing that you can do to make her walk she will do it when she's ready, but if she is starting to stand without holding on, you are almost there.

I believe 18 months is the 'if she's not walking on her own at all, take her to a specialist for an eval' time.

Both my girls walked at 13 months. My son at 15 months (like his Abba and his paternal aunt).

DS#1 did not walk until he was 17+ months old, and I was also 7 months pg with DS#2. He did not STAND by himself until 2 days before he walked.

I think I can beat you all Tongue Out

One of my daughters started walking at over 22 months. She was 6 weeks shy of her second birthday!

She sat at 8 months, crawled at about 13-14 months, refused to even stand up until a week or so before she walked. For a couple of months she used to get around by 'walking' on her knees. The day she walked is forever engrained on my memory. She just stood up and started kicking a ball around in the garden!

She had really tiny feet (still does) and I'm sure that had something to do with it, because she was unable to balance properly.

Oh, and I was overjoyed when she started walking, if for no other reason than her younger brother was already 8 months old!!
